Book “The Men Who Killed Me: Rwandan Survivors of Sexual Violence”

Seventeen testimonials and portraits of survivors of sexual violence (16 women and 1 man) have been collected and edited for a book which was published in April 2009 to raise awareness and reveal the impact of rape and other forms of sexual violence survivors suffered during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. The book also contains an introductory chapter (explaining the roots of the genocide and the sexual violence conducted during the genocide) and a concluding chapter (discussing the situation of survivors of sexual violence post-genocide Rwanda).    

The book - The Men Who Killed Me: Rwandan Survivors of Sexual Violence - has been published by Douglas and McIntyre in April 2009. The publication date marked 15 years after the genocide (7 April - 4 July 1994). The book has been edited by Anne-Marie de Brouwer and Sandra Ka Hon Chu; Samer Muscati has been in charge of photography and the testimonials are from survivors who are beneficiaries of Solace Ministries. The foreword has been written by Stephen Lewis and the afterword by Eve Ensler. This project has been made partly possible through the financial support of Cordaid.
